Ceramics has become one of the most meaningful and enriching parts of my school experience, offering a rare and valuable sense of peace and creative freedom in the midst of a fast-paced academic environment. I first discovered ceramics in my freshman year, when I chose it as a minor elective, unsure of what to expect. The class quickly became more than just a break from core subjects; it became something I looked forward to each day. Because of how deeply I connected with the art form, I chose to pursue ceramics as a major in the following years.
In a school culture that often prioritizes academic rigor and performance, ceramics has been my personal sanctuary. It is a space free from the pressure of right or wrong answers, where creativity and effort are valued over perfection. The studio feels like a world of its own, quiet and focused. Through ceramics, I’ve discovered a therapeutic outlet—one that helps me process emotions, reflect on my experiences, and express parts of myself I might not otherwise be able to share.
The portfolio below features some of my favorite ceramic works from the past four years, reflecting my growth as both an artist and a student. It begins with Coral, the very first piece I created as a freshman, and concludes with Transformation, a project from my senior year that showcases how far I’ve come. Two pieces I’m especially proud of are Yin and Yang and Harmony of Differences. These works explore and celebrate my mixed family background, using form and texture to express themes of identity and unity.
